Starring:
Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, Dan Byrd, Thomas Haden Church, Patricia Clarkson, Cam Gigandet, Lisa Kudrow, Malcolm McDowell, Alyson Michalka, Stanley Tucci
Synopsis:
A clean-cut high school student relies on the school’s rumor mill to advance her social and financial standing.
My Review:
I gave this film a chance because I had heard good things from a lot of people and when I saw that Emma Stone had got a leading role in a comedy I had to give it a try; She was brilliant in House Bunny and Superbad.
She certainly doesn’t let down in this quick witted and quirky comedy with the same feel as most John Hughes films (With a lot of references too) As much as it seems like it is just another high school comedy, it isn’t, its script, acting and storyline make it stand out from the rest.
The directing isn’t anything special but the title sequences are cleverly done.
A lot of the other actors impress in this film. Some of the smaller supporting characters have the funniest lines. Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson are both outstanding and hilarious as her quirky parents. Lisa Kudrow finally impresses with her performance as the unusual school psychiatrist, in my opinion she has struggled to be funny in anything since Friends.
The rest of the cast don’t really stand out from the rest but do a good enough job.
It was disappointing that Emma didn’t get any recognition from the Academy as you can tell that she has a bright future ahead of her. Her delivery of the well written lines are perfect and almost seem real and improvised.
Verdict:
If you like comedies about teenagers and their dilemmas in high school, but want to see something a little bit different and original with some real big laughs, then this is the film for you.

Clash of the Titans -
- LOL what a load of rubbish, not only was this film boring but it was badly directed, casted, acted, computer generated and paced. All the action scenes were crap and too long but when it came to the kracken when it would have been good and the CGI looked amazing, it last 2 seconds. What made this film ten times worse was the 3D, dear lord it was done badly, sometimes people had two heads, it was pointless, most of it could be watched without the glasses. Very disappointed with this one.
Kick-Ass -
- Best comic book movie in ages. Really enjoyed this film from start to finish, its gritty and controversial content made it feel so original and fresh, and the way it portrays what would really happen if you tried to be a superhero is perfect. The directing is very good, acting and casting almost perfect, not sure McLovin was casted well, story funny, sad and exciting all the way through. Hit Girl ‘Kicked-Ass’ Would love to a see a sequel as long as everyone returns.
2012 -
- WOW! if you can watch this film with your mouth and eyes not wide open then there’s something wrong with you, the best SFX ever created! The story lacks emotion, feeling, good acting from the main characters and realism but I have a feeling that it wasn’t about that; it was just about making you say WOW! Best disaster movie ever made with the best visual effects ever made! Watch this for some fun! I will admit it would have got 5 stars if the acting was better and it was a tad more realistic but I think thats what made it more entertaining to be honest.

The Transporter -
- Laughs at itself but not too much, the fight scenes are well constructed, performed and are very clever and original. Jason Statham proves he can be an action star, like an English Bruce Willis. the directing is good and matches the pace and atmosphere very well. A good story and well acted by all. Would love to see an origin movie.

Transporter 2 -
- They took something so good and made it really over the top and unrealistic. There’s laughing at yourself then there’s this. Still enjoyable for the fight scenes which i thought were better then the first actually but the car scenes are just ridiculous. Both villains are pretty annoying too.
Transporter 3 -
- Even worse.. Took everything that they kept in the second and replaced it with a soppy emotional ex-transporter who fishes, no longer obeys by his rules, can’t stay in one place, is now an expert BMX rider, who has terrible taste in women and can’t keep it in his pants. Of all the women he has met? why this one? never have i hate a character so much, her dialogue, voice, obsession with food and her looks made me wanna strangle her! Her character also changes personality constantly. The fight scenes were terrible, almost censored, really badly directed and short. There were some good car chases and the end was pretty cool. The plot was ok but ruined by all of the negatives. Where they should go now is maybe a prequel and then a sequel, i think a lot of people would love to see an origin story where maybe Frank Martin has a partner which gets supposedly killed and then comes back in the sequel to face Frank because he blames him for what happened. He needs to fight someone who is if not better then Frank then at least equal. The original director needs to return along with previous plot characters like Lai and Inspector Tarconi, who should maybe be captured or killed to get to Frank. Turning him into a very different Frank the audience are used too. Anyway, just an idea lol
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs -
- An Hilarious and witty underdog from the makers of Monster House, Open Season and Surfs Up. I laughed all the way through this film, the jokes, one liners and witty script made it so enjoyable and original. The animation and detail was incredible, the colours were enough to drop your jaw. Great for the kids and the adults!
This Is It -
- Bit on the long side and very unusual that they filmed every inch of the rehearsals (as if they knew he was going to die) This aside if you like Michael Jackson and ONLY if you like him then you will really enjoy this. It shows a very different side to him and shows after all these years and problems he is better then ever. Real shame he had to die because this gig would have been epic with all of the dancers, songs, pyrotechnics and short films. Kenny Ortega is a kiss arse though!
Shutter Island -
- Some plot holes and flaws but other then that this film was made to perfection. Martin Scorsese the director shows the audience that he can do a non gangster flick, some of the best thriller suspense directing I’ve witnessed. The music, use of silence and directing style really added to the atmosphere and tension. Beware it does get confusing at times and you almost feel like giving up on understanding it but don’t worry it eventually makes sense in the end with a big twist. I say big twist but I guessed it at the start. The acting from Leonardo DiCaprio is incredible and very impressive as usual; Especially at the end.
I Love You Phillip Morris -
- Best Jim Carrey film I’ve seen in ages! Hilarious, Dramatic, Moving, Intelligent, Beautiful, Tense and perfect in every way! This proves he can act beyond a doubt. It has a touch of his earlier silly work and some genuine breathtaking emotional performances. Ewan McGregor is very impressive also. Both actors best films in a few years! An amazing watch with incredible story telling and directing.
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen -
- Full throttle action from start to end! Some of the best SFX, the best action I’ve ever seen but lacks feeling, story, good acting and script. If you’re in it for the action then you will love this but if you want some story to go with it then head somewhere else. Michael Bay the director is all about explosions and boobs and thats what he gives, and his stupid obsession with sun glare grrrrrrrr. Other then that this film is very entertaining but a little long.
Terminator Salvation -
- Incredible follow-up to get this franchise back on target! Isn’t the same without Arnie but it would have been worse with him in it because of his age. It weirdly ended as if it was finished even though it is going to be another trilogy, I can’t quite see the next two being that good but we will see. High octane action film from start to finish with some impressive special effects and acting from everyone. MCG the director was very loyal to the originals.
The Diving Bell And The Butterfly -
- Very moving and touching movie. Impressive performances and the directing is very original and really gets the point across. The connotations of the title of the film are very clever. Some bits are a bit slow and sometimes the camera work is a bit average but other then that this film is almost perfect. I’m not a huge fan of subtitles so I would prefer if it was in English but I appreciate the reasons why it is French. An outstanding film.
A Serious Man -
- Incredible film making but I just found it really boring and a complete anti climax. The acting is fantastic but for a Coen Brothers movie I found it quite dull. I felt stupid watching it and I felt like I would only enjoy it if I was Jewish.
The Fourth Kind -
- Not that scary of film, but it does well to make you think about things to scare yourself, couldn’t look at my door in the dark for a while. the directing isn’t anything special but he does well to capture the scenery and colours to make it atmospheric. the actors do well enough. don’t believe the archive things are real though because it’s meant to be like The Blair Witch Project, having ‘real’ footage makes it scarier. all in all a good watch but not the scariest film.
